SpiderOak is a suite of productivity software, built to exceed security compliance requirements, by utilizing blockchain technology. I was the head of their design team, which consisted of 3 additional designers which directly reported to me. I was instrumental in helping re-imagine their existing product offering into an easy to use and intuitive chat program, which was built upon blockchain technology for high security applications.
The primary challenge of this product was to make using a secure chat platform as easy and intuitive as the less secure chat platforms users are already comfortable with. To accomplish this, security needed to be as unobtrusive as possible, if not completely unnoticeable to most users.
I am particularly fond of the solution for secure cloud storage I designed.
When exploring new offerings to build on our platform, I noted that if we abstracted the way we think about our chat platform, we could easily build a file storage and sharing solution, which would only require minimal back-end changes, to support a file sharing front end design.
This approach to solving the problem of file sharing allowed us to roll out an entirely new product offering, reaching a different audience, in only a few months of development.
